Sometimes I'm Dumb

I look like this after trail running (stuffing my face and grinning from ear to ear)
I read this awesome post from Laura at Undeterrable and it was a swift kick in the pants.

Miss Laura, you are dead on. I've never been a fast runner [and lately I'm more of a shuffler] but the only person that actually cares that I'm not faster is me.

So while I've been whining about how dreadfully slow and slouchy I feel lately, I have to also remember that I don't love running because I want to get faster. I just love running. Period.

In other news, I may be running the Backyard Half Marathon this weekend, which is a free, donation-based trail race in the Columbia Gorge. The route goes up, up and then up some more (nearly 2000' gain) and then back down again. Donations go to support the local cross country team. I will not be breaking any records but I'm pretty sure I'll be grinning from ear to ear.

  1. I agree with you and Laura! I will never feel ashamed of my pace because I'm off my butt doing stuff. Those runners who think low of slower runners are snotty.

  2. That was a good post. I need to remember that too. Wow - that is a serious half the week before a marathon. You are tough!

    1. Yeah...probably not the smartest move on my part but I can't resist a free trail race!

  3. I hope that you have a fun run this weekend! What a great cause to support too!

  4. I love this! I always have to remind myself to not compare myself to others or wish I ran like so-and-so. Run for yourself because you love it :).
Good luck on the half if you decide to do it- I would love to do a race in the gorge someday!

  5. aw I love reading posts like this. I too am a runner because I love it. I may not be the fastest but it's all about doing what we love!
